Field Office Supply Mockups

Surface pattern and textile designers rely on product mockups to give art directors a realistic idea of what their work would look like across a variety of products. Unfortunately, high quality mockups are not easy to find and many designers are forced to work with poorly made files that don’t showcase their work as professionally as they should.

After evaluating what surface pattern and textile designers need the most in an effective product mockup, I developed a library of clean, modern, and versatile mockups that include moving parts and editable backgrounds. Each file is highly customizable, which makes designers feel more confident about investing in each mockup because they can use multiple times in their portfolio and across social media.

Pinpointing a gap in the market

A competitive analysis and interviews with designers revealed a number of insights and opportunities to redesign the typical product mockups used in this field:

• Designers need a wide variety of mockups to showcase their work—but that gets expensive. Mockups that are highly editable provide value because they allow repeat use.

• Files need to allow for flexible layouts, color palettes, and branding in portfolios and lookbooks.

• Styling should be minimal—mockups that include extra props often do so in a way that is distracting or doesn’t match with the designer’s brand.

The final photoshop file purchased by the user is a digital download. Although most users are professional surface pattern designers with previous experience using Photoshop and smart objects, it is important that each file have clearly labeled layers that tell the user where their artwork should be placed.
